Deux événements historiques qui ont approfondi l’amitié entre le Japon et la Turquie sont liés dans le film. Le 16 septembre 1890, le frégate turc Ertuğrul fait naufrage au large des côtes du Japon. Les populations locales réussissent néanmoins à sauver 69 personnes grâce à des mesures exceptionnelles de sauvetage en mer. En 1985, pendant la guerre Iran-Irak, l'Irak annonce son intention d'attaquer l'Iran. Plus de 300 Japonais se trouvent alors en Iran. La Turquie propose d'évacuer les Japonais. Cette histoire d’amitié et de compassion a été nominé pour le prix du cinéma décerné par la Japan Academy dans dix catégories, dont celles du meilleur film et du meilleur réalisateur, et a remporté le prix du meilleur enregistrement sonore et de la meilleure direction artistique.
